Northumbria University presents itself as a forward-looking, research-intensive institution focused on changing lives through education and research, while helping transform society and the economy. Its values emphasise academic excellence, collaboration, innovation and ambition, alongside a strong commitment to real-world impact through close links with industry, communities and experiential learning.
In approaching this brief, I wanted the design to reflect those principles through a clear, contemporary and purposeful visual language that feels ambitious, well-structured and connected to the university’s future-facing identity.

The final outcome translates these values into a clear and engaging candidate brief that prioritises coherence and engagement. The design balances a professional, editorial feel with a contemporary edge, allowing information to be easily navigated while still feeling considered and purposeful. In doing so, the brief reflects Northumbria’s communication style: direct, informed and future-facing, while reinforcing its ethos of ambition, real-world relevance and strong connections between education and industry.
